29 CMS faculties coping with air con issues – WSOC TV
CHARLOTTE – Channel 9 learned that many buildings in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools District are having air conditioning issues.
Alexandria Boyd said that her 16-year-old daughter Deandria fell ill with COVID-19 less than a week after class began at the North Mecklenburg High School. Boyd said that a broken air conditioner in the school was partly to blame.

She said it was too hot inside and the students weren’t wearing masks.
“We’ve been in this pandemic all year,” Boyd said.
She believes the lack of air conditioning has increased the threat of COVID-19.
Channel 9 learned that 29 CMS elementary, middle and high schools deal with HV / AC issues.
The problem at Myers Park High School was so bad that the parents raised money to buy fans to place anywhere in the school.

“At this point, it’s a problem when there are multiple schools that don’t have adequate air conditioning to control the germs these kids are breathing in,” Boyd said.
CMS Board of Education chairman Elyse Dashew said the district has a shortage of HV / AC staff and that they are now offering $ 1,000 in bonuses to help recruit staff and get the air conditioning up and running bring to.
Boyd said the school district should prioritize repairing the air conditioning.
